Players of Nigeria National league side, Ikorodu united of Lagos cried out that the club has refused to pay them for the past 6 months.
The organ boys were relageted from the Nigeria professional football League to the Nigerian National League last season and their performance in the lower division to many fans has been abysmal. One player who spoke the green and white sports on the condition of anonymity said the teams abysmal performance is as a result of the inability of the club management to pay them.
He said “The management has to be blamed, they are not paying and expect us to play with empty stomach. Aside that, we also have families who depend on us.
“It is a tough time for the club as some of the sponsors have also withdrawn their sponsorships. It is highly discouraging.
“The club need to do something fast so as not to lead the club to its extinction.
The claims of the players could be valid as the media officer of the club, Mr Ayoola Babatunde refused to deny the claims of the players. When contacted he said “We will get better as the days go by, the club’s management is working towards the success of the club, hence, there will be improvement soon,’’.
Ikorodu united in their bid to boost morale played non league side Stationary Stores yesterday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium and they drew the game 3 - 3.
